Quantum computing firms expand into aerospace and defense sectors
Quantum computing firms are seeing increased commercial activity across the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor sectors.
IonQ has secured a contract with the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) through its Space Division. The agreement supports the NRO’s Radar Commercial Augmentation (RCA) program, providing commercial synthetic aperture radar imagery and data services for national security missions. This move indicates a strategic expansion beyond pure quantum hardware into multi-industry commercial applications.
Quantum Computing Inc (QCi) reported a significant revenue increase in Q2 2026, reaching $5.6 million compared to $61,000 in the previous year. The company’s backlog has grown to approximately $42.5 million. Growth was driven by photonics products for aerospace and government use, as well as the sale of a Dirac-3 quantum optimization machine to a global consulting firm. Additionally, QCi expanded its manufacturing capabilities through the $73.1 million acquisition of NHanced Semiconductors.
