Quantum computing market projected to reach $100 billion by 2035
The quantum computing market is transitioning from research-based experimentation toward broader commercial exploration. McKinsey forecasts the market could reach a value of $100 billion by 2035, driven by advancements in quantum processors, algorithms, error correction, and software platforms.
Key industry players include IonQ, Rigetti Computing, D-Wave Quantum, and IBM. While IonQ recently reported a 287% increase in sales to $80.1 million in the second quarter, much of this growth was attributed to acquisitions, and the company reported a non-GAAP EBITDA loss of $120.3 million. IonQ aims to achieve profitability by 2030.
Investment in the sector is being fueled by both government funding and private-sector interest. Organizations are increasingly testing quantum systems for applications in optimization, simulation, cybersecurity, and advanced analytics, despite current limitations regarding hardware complexity and error rates.
