Quantum Computing Threatens Current Digital Security, Experts Warn

Technology specialists warned that the rapid advancement of quantum computing could undermine existing digital security systems. At the 34th Euskal Encounter conference in Barakaldo, Spain, they explained that quantum processors may be able to break the encryption protecting banking transactions, private communications and other sensitive data within seconds.

The speakers highlighted that finance, insurance and large corporations are already exploring post‑quantum cryptography to prepare for this shift. Senior researcher Borja Aizpurua Altuna of Multiverse said the change is inevitable, while engineer Jorge Quevedo Durán noted that quantum computers are already being used for logistics, risk management, manufacturing, artificial‑intelligence tasks, route optimisation and molecular selection. Ongoing development of machines with more qubits will further expand these capabilities, marking a new era for digital security.
