Quantum processor performs automated geometry theorem proving
Researchers from Zhejiang University and Tsinghua University have successfully used a 121-qubit superconducting quantum processor to perform automated geometry theorem proving. This achievement marks a potential shift for quantum computers from high-speed number crunching toward systems capable of executing logical mathematical reasoning.
The study demonstrated this capability by proving two mathematical theorems: the perpendicularity of a square's diagonals and a geometry problem from the 1978 International Mathematical Olympiad. The researchers utilized a hybrid implementation of Wu's method to achieve these results on programmable quantum hardware.
