Quantum proposes AI data center complex in Limón, Costa Rica

The firm Quantum has proposed the construction of the Quantum AI Free Zone Campus in Limón, Costa Rica. This project aims to establish the nation’s first data center complex specifically designed for artificial intelligence and hyperscale computing.

Spanning approximately 42 hectares, the development is planned to be completed in three phases by the end of 2027. The first phase will provide 50MW of capacity, followed by a second phase reaching 125MW, and a final phase bringing the total capacity to 200MW across seven data centers. The facility is intended to support GPU cloud services, sovereign computing, and high-performance computing.

The project will operate under Costa Rica’s free trade zone regime. To support its massive scale, the campus requires significant infrastructure, including a 230kV electrical substation, water treatment facilities, and a water supply estimated at 350 liters per second. The proposal also includes redundant connections to the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and international submarine cable systems.
