Quantum research expands through new academic and industry partnerships
Academic and industry leaders are expanding quantum research ecosystems through new partnerships and conferences. At the fifth annual Quantum World Congress hosted by the University of Maryland, officials highlighted the university’s Discovery District as a central hub for transitioning quantum technology from discovery to commercial production. The event featured participation from government leaders and global CEOs, coinciding with the recent opening of the Microsoft Discovery Center, a new quantum research facility.
In the Midwest, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has joined the Midwest Quantum Collaboratory. This consortium includes eight universities, such as Purdue, the University of Michigan, and Northwestern University, aimed at fostering collaborative research, innovation, and workforce development in quantum information science. The initiative focuses on applying quantum mechanics to advance computing, communication, and sensing technologies.
