Quarteira Community Theater Revives 'Estamos Lixados!' in Open‑Air Performance

On July 30, the community‑driven group Grupo de Teatro Comunitário – Quarteira Fora da Caixa staged its latest play, “Estamos Lixados!”, on the open‑air stage of the Mercado de Verão in Quarteira, Portugal. The production, the group’s third after the well‑received “Cinema Miami” and “Aluga‑se”, blends street‑news style narration, body sounds, music and improvised dialogue to voice the frustrations of locals tired of seasonal instability.

Artistic direction was shared by Miguel Martins Pessoa and Diana Bernedo, with dramaturgy by Rita do Vale Capela. The cast comprised about twenty neighbourhood actors and actresses, supported by assistants Hugo Machado and Mónica Melo. Audience members responded with enthusiastic applause, highlighting the play’s grassroots energy and its role in bringing theatre directly to the city’s public space.
