Quartu Santu Sardegna budget update and school climate control controversy

The local administration has presented a budget variation for 2026-2028, proposing a net change of 24.8 million euros. The plan includes significant investments in social services, mobility, infrastructure, and energy efficiency for public buildings. Key allocations include 1.4 million euros for housing policies, increased funding for school meals and transport, and 430,000 euros for public green space maintenance. Additionally, 90,000 euros will be directed toward local police activities.

Separately, local officials are criticizing a regional initiative to provide 10 million euros for school air conditioning. While funds have been allocated for the 2026/27 school year, the deadline for completing works is October 31. Council members and the assessor for public instruction have noted that the 23-day window is insufficient for technical verifications, planning, and implementation, calling the timeline a bureaucratic obstacle that prevents municipalities from utilizing the resources.
