Qubic restarts blockchain following $1.4 million hack

Layer-1 blockchain Qubic has resumed network processing and initiated a recovery procedure after a security exploit resulted in the theft of approximately $1.4 million in QU tokens. The attack targeted 1,404 accounts by exploiting a vulnerability in wallet seeds generated via the Qubic web wallet on specific Apple devices and browsers, where an insecure random-number generator produced predictable seeds.

To mitigate further losses, the network was temporarily halted. Qubic validators, referred to as ‘Computors’, have approved a recovery plan, and the project has launched a dedicated claims platform. Affected users can submit claims to retrieve tokens through this platform until May 1, 2027.

The project has released a fix for the seed-generation flaw in web wallet version 4.26.4. Qubic advises all users who created wallets using the web wallet prior to this version to treat them as insecure, migrate their funds to a new wallet, and discontinue use of the old ones immediately.
