Queanbeyan Monaro Street upgrades to cause further traffic disruptions
The Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is proceeding with a temporary closure of the Lowe Street intersection as part of ongoing Monaro Street upgrades. The closure is expected to last approximately two weeks, beginning on 27 September, to facilitate underground infrastructure work and surface reconstruction.
During this period, detours will be implemented at Ross Road, Morisset Street, and Cooma Street. Motorists are advised to avoid using Canberra Avenue to enter Queanbeyan, opting for Yass Road or Ellerton Drive instead. The council has scheduled these works during school holidays to minimize impact on local traffic and school commutes.
The Monaro Street project has faced significant delays and cost increases after a problematic stormwater main was discovered in an unexpected location, adding $3 million to the budget and extending the timeline by at least eight weeks.
