Quebec candidates face election-related complaints and scrutiny

Political candidates in Quebec face scrutiny and formal complaints ahead of the upcoming election. In Laval, independent candidate Sona Lakhoyan Olivier is facing a formal complaint with Élections Québec. The complaint alleges she distributed partisan flyers using the logo and branding of the Assemblée nationale du Québec, which is prohibited during election periods. Additionally, the materials reportedly lacked the required authorization from an official agent.

In another matter in the Vimont-Auteuil district, Liberal candidate Louis Ialenti has been accused of misrepresenting his professional titles. A citizen reported that electoral tracts describing him as an “lawyer, entrepreneur and teacher” contained inaccuracies regarding his credentials.

Separately, an independent candidate in the Marie-Lacoste-Gérin-Lajoie riding criticized a recent debate organized by the Drummond Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The candidate argued that the event focused disproportionately on economic growth and immigration to serve regional business interests, rather than addressing the broader impacts of such policies on the purchasing power and quality of life for workers and retirees.
