Quebec City man arrested for alleged ISIS-linked chemical attack plot

A 24-year-old man, Louay Angoud, has been arrested in Quebec City for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS). The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that the arrest followed an investigation that began in April.

According to authorities, Angoud allegedly communicated with ISIS members online and claimed to possess the knowledge required to manufacture chemical weapons intended to poison Canadian citizens. While the threat was significant, police noted there was no imminent danger to the public as the suspect did not have the materials necessary to carry out the alleged plan.

Angoud, who is not a Canadian citizen and lacks legal status in the country, has no prior criminal record. He faces multiple charges, including using or possessing property for terrorist purposes, participating in the activities of a terrorist group, and carrying a weapon with dangerous intent. The potential prison sentences for these charges range from 10 years to life.
