Quebec communities hold awareness events for homelessness
Community awareness events known as ‘Nuit des sans-abri’ (Night of the Homeless) were held in Quebec to sensitize the public to the realities of homelessness.
In La Malbaie, approximately forty participants braved cold and light rain for five hours to experience the discomfort faced by those living on the streets. Organized by Ressources Genesis, the event included musical performances, the sharing of anonymous testimonies, and the distribution of warm clothing. Organizers noted a continuous increase in the complexity and number of homelessness cases in the region.
In Baie-Comeau, around thirty people gathered at Place Hauterive during snowfall and near-freezing temperatures to discuss the causes of homelessness and how to provide effective aid. Local organizations, including CRÉAM and Carrefour jeunesse Manicouagan, participated to highlight the growing intersection of homelessness, mental health, and addiction issues on the Côte-Nord.
