Quebec communities mark 45th Day of Action Against Sexual Violence

The 45th Day of Action Against Sexual Violence has prompted community mobilizations across Quebec. In Amqui, the CALACS de l’Est du Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Centre de Femmes de la Vallée de la Matapédia held a gathering to advocate for unimpeded access to justice and resources.

Organizers are calling for increased funding for community organizations and better intersectoral collaboration between the justice, health, and social services sectors. Advocates aim to denounce the ‘rape culture’ and systemic flaws that can re-victimize survivors. Statistics cited in the campaign indicate that approximately two-thirds of individuals seeking help from support organizations report not being believed during their initial disclosures.

In other regions, such as Estrie, CALACS Agression Estrie organized public events including information booths and open mic sessions to foster solidarity. These activities allow survivors, their families, and allies to share experiences and learn about available support services provided by local organizations.
