Quebec community organizations hold political debates
Community development corporations in Quebec have organized political debates to address the priorities of local community organizations ahead of provincial elections.
In Laval, the CDC de Laval hosted a debate featuring candidates from the Parti libéral du Québec, Québec solidaire, and the Parti québécois. The discussion focused on three primary issues: financial inequity between regions, rising mental health needs, and food security challenges driven by the cost of living and housing. Notably, candidates from Coalition avenir Québec and the Parti conservateur du Québec declined the invitation.
In the Portneuf riding, a similar debate organized by the CDC de la MRC de Portneuf featured candidates discussing support for community groups. Key themes included the need for predictable, long-term funding to ensure competitive salaries and staff retention, as well as reducing government bureaucracy to streamline aid. Candidates emphasized the importance of including community expertise in decision-making processes.
