Quebec infrastructure and senior mobility initiatives announced
In Saint-Siméon, a new community mobility service for seniors is set to launch on September 9. The initiative provides free transportation and accompaniment for individuals aged 50 and older for tasks such as grocery shopping, pharmacy visits, or medical appointments in La Malbaie. The project is a collaboration between the municipality and Nissan Charlevoix, which is providing a vehicle, and received support from the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. Residents must contact the municipality 48 hours in advance to use the service.
Separately, Simon Jolin-Barrette, the Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for Constitutional Affairs, has identified road infrastructure modernization as a priority. He has committed to working with the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to address the deterioration of Route 223 in McMasterville and Route 116 in Mont-Saint-Hilaire. Proposed improvements for Route 223 include large-scale repairs and the integration of a bicycle path, while plans for Route 116 involve repaving and the coordination of reserved lanes and active mobility amenities.
