Quebec maple syrup strategic reserves expected to deplete by 2027
The strategic maple syrup reserves in Quebec, Canada, are projected to be completely exhausted by the end of February 2027, according to the industry association PPAQ. The remaining stocks have already been sold and are currently being delivered to buyers.
Despite the depletion of the official reserve, the association does not anticipate an immediate supply shortage. This is because buyers' inventories have reportedly increased by more than 35 million pounds (approximately 16 million kilograms). Some of this buildup is attributed to US customers stockpiling products amid ongoing tariff disputes between the US and Canada.
Canada remains a global leader in production, accounting for 75 percent of the world's maple syrup in 2025, with Quebec alone producing 90 percent of the Canadian total. The United States is the primary consumer, taking over 60 percent of exports, followed by Germany at roughly 7 percent. The strategic reserve was originally established to stabilize prices and supply against harvest fluctuations.
