Quebec municipalities manage local development and conservation projects

Municipalities in Quebec are navigating local development and conservation projects through public engagement. In Laval, the city is conducting an online consultation until August 29 regarding the future of the former Golf Sainte-Rose. The administration, led by Mayor Stéphane Boyer, acquired the 52-hectare site for $12.5 million to transform it into a nature park. The plan aims to protect three-quarters of the land, including forested areas, and will be part of the Montreal Metropolitan Community's conservation initiatives.

In Saint-Sauveur, the municipal council has decided to terminate the consultation process for a proposed four-story, 26-unit residential and commercial project on Rue Principale. The decision follows significant citizen mobilization, with approximately 500 people attending a public meeting, double the expected attendance. Mayor Luc Martel stated that the decision to end the process rather than suspend it was based on concerns regarding downtown development, traffic, and parking.
