Quebec opposition leaders urge focus on Alberta referendum results

Opposition leaders in Quebec are calling on the incoming Parti Québécois government to consider the recent referendum results in Alberta. In Alberta, approximately three-quarters of voters chose to remain in Canada, rejecting a proposal for a future separation referendum. However, Albertans also voted to negotiate constitutional changes to secure increased powers from the federal government.

Quebec Conservative Party Leader Éric Duhaime suggested that Quebecers should align with Alberta to achieve a better balance of power within the federation. He also urged Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon to abandon his commitment to holding an independence referendum. Liberal Leader Charles Milliard also requested that the government take note of the Alberta results, though he did not comment on the province's desire for increased constitutional powers.
