Quebec Paramedics Strike Ends with Tentative Deal

After more than three years without a collective agreement, the 3,500 paramedics in Quebec represented by the Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS‑CSN) have reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government. The intensive negotiations ran from July 20 to 25 and a deal in principle was announced on July 26.

The dispute centered on retirement benefits, with 94 % of union members demanding parity with other public‑health workers, including the ability to retire after 35 years of service. While the precise terms remain confidential pending a membership vote, pressure tactics have been suspended except for uniform‑related actions. Treasury Board head France‑Élaine Duranceau confirmed the tentative deal on social media.

The union will present the agreement to its members for approval, and services for the public have been maintained throughout the strike.
