Quebec police association launches mental health campaign

The Association des directeurs de police du Québec (ADPQ) has launched a new campaign titled ‘Protégeons ceux qui nous protègent’ (Protect those who protect us). The initiative uses video content to highlight the daily psychological health challenges faced by police officers due to high-stress interventions.

Research cited by the ADPQ indicates that between 75% and 90% of Quebec police officers and investigators report exposure to at least one potentially traumatic event during their careers. Furthermore, an estimated 12% to 18% of officers in the province are likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Thierry Vallières, president of the ADPQ, emphasized that because police are frequently exposed to dangerous situations and tragedies, police departments must possess the necessary resources to provide specialized psychological support to ensure officer well-being and service quality.
