Quebec Police Launch National Water Safety Operation

The Sûreté du Québec and other provincial police forces are increasing patrols on waterways throughout Quebec this weekend as part of a coordinated national water safety operation. Under the theme “We are all responsible for our conduct,” officers will target risky behaviours by boaters, including the consumption of alcohol on board, which the police say greatly raises the chance of death or injury and can lead to criminal sanctions.

Boaters are reminded to check weather forecasts, plan routes, wear appropriate personal flotation devices, obey any navigation bans in effect, and inform a trusted person of their travel plans. The operation will involve both on‑water and dockside interventions aimed at promoting safe conduct for all water users.
