Quebec police watchdog investigates fatal Laval car crash
Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, has launched an investigation into a fatal car crash that occurred in Laval in early August. The investigation follows a reversal of an initial decision not to probe the incident, prompted by new information.
The crash occurred on August 5 when a vehicle, which police say was being pursued after being spotted without a license plate, crashed into a fitness center. The driver and one of two 19-year-old passengers died in the collision. Laval police had previously stated that officers ended their pursuit when the vehicle accelerated drastically.
