Quebec political parties propose forestry reforms and tax relief

Quebec political parties are introducing new economic platforms aimed at addressing industry crises and the rising cost of living.

Éric Duhaime, leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ), unveiled a forestry platform in Saint-Pamphile. The party is calling for a deep revision of the forestry regime and greater decision-making power for regional authorities. The PCQ warns that nearly 30,000 jobs are at risk due to current industry crises and high American tariffs on softwood lumber, which can reach a combined rate of 45.16%. The party criticized the current administration for centralized decision-making in Montreal.

Simultaneously, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ), proposed eliminating the Quebec Sales Tax (TVQ) on used goods and vehicles. The PQ argues this measure will help families save thousands of dollars annually and encourage the reuse of goods. This proposal mirrors a similar idea recently announced by the PCQ, though the PQ maintains the policy is a necessary response to economic pressures.
