Quebec political parties unveil election platforms
As the Quebec provincial election enters its 30th day, major political parties have unveiled diverse platforms focusing on regional development, transportation, and housing.
The Parti Québécois (PQ) presented a plan for the Capitale-Nationale region, emphasizing economic development, public transit to reduce congestion, homelessness, and strengthening Quebec City’s role as the capital. Their proposals include highway redevelopments and transforming the former Colisée into a football field.
The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) pledged $200 million to support regional areas, with $100 million dedicated to local businesses and another $100 million for repurposing heritage buildings into housing or community spaces. They also committed to a national forest fire prevention strategy.
Regarding housing and property access, Québec Solidaire proposed nationalizing intercity bus transport and offering loans of up to 15% to first-time homebuyers. The Parti libéral du Québec (PLQ) announced a plan to refund 36% of the QST on new properties valued up to $500,000, capped at $10,000. The Parti conservateur du Québec focused on helping youth access property ownership.
