Quebec prison inmate receives McDonald's and alcohol via drone
An inmate at the Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines federal prison in Quebec was caught after receiving McDonald's food and alcohol via drone delivery. The incident occurred overnight between Wednesday and Thursday at the Regional Reception Centre, specifically within the Special Handling Unit, which is the facility's highest-security section designed for dangerous inmates.
A correctional officer discovered the inmate under the influence of alcohol and seized leftover McDonald's items during a routine round. While Correctional Service Canada (CSC) prohibits external commercial food deliveries, an anonymous source claimed that drone deliveries are a recurring issue at federal penitentiaries. The source noted that existing drone detection systems and surveillance cameras have known security gaps.
Correctional Service Canada has confirmed that an unauthorized delivery took place and stated that the incident is currently under investigation. The agency emphasized that any attempt to introduce prohibited items into a correctional facility via drone poses a significant security risk.
