Quebec prosecutor stays charges against 11 Longueuil teens
Quebec's Crown prosecutor has stayed charges against 11 teenagers in Longueuil. The group was facing various charges, including conspiracy to kidnap, conspiracy to commit unlawful confinement, conspiracy to commit assault, wearing a disguise for a criminal purpose, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unlawful assembly.
These charges were related to events preceding the death of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot by Longueuil police last September. The Montreal police department conducted the investigation. The prosecutor's office stated that new evidence received after the charges were filed raised complex legal issues. Legal proceedings are temporarily suspended and may be resumed within one year following further analysis and consultations. A separate investigation into the actions of the Longueuil police is being conducted by a police watchdog.
