Quebec road infrastructure: Saguenay completes 50 km of paving as Premier calls for repairs
The City of Saguenay has reported a successful year for road infrastructure in 2026, completing 50 kilometers of new paving. This total exceeded initial projections by six kilometers and involved a $15.5 million investment. The work spanned all three municipal districts, including 15.4 km of major arteries, 10.8 km of rural roads, and 13.4 km of collector and residential streets, alongside 11 km of spot repairs. Additionally, 15 km of sidewalks and curbs were replaced.
On a provincial level, Premier Christine Fréchette has called for accelerated interventions to address road conditions and potholes across Quebec. During a visit to Saint-Sauveur, she acknowledged that some roadways are not “dignified” for the province and advocated for increased investment. This comes following demands from the municipalities of Piedmont, Saint-Sauveur, and Sainte-Adèle for better maintenance, signage, and repairs on provincial routes such as Route 117.
