Quebec small schools initiative aims to reduce isolation
The organization École en réseau (ÉER) has launched a collective commitment aimed at reducing the isolation of small schools in Quebec. This initiative encourages school staff to use networking to share expertise and enrich learning environments despite geographic distances.
According to data from the Quebec Ministry of Education for 2023-2024, small schools—defined by the ÉER as having 150 or fewer primary students and 250 or fewer secondary students—account for approximately 30% of the province's school buildings. This includes 872 out of 2,911 recorded buildings. The initiative seeks to promote educational equity by ensuring that geographic location does not limit access to resources or opportunities.
