Quebec teenager dies in ATV accident

A 14-year-old boy died following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident in the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, north of Maniwaki, on August 24. The accident occurred when the youth was attempting to climb a slope in a quarry and the vehicle overturned on him.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the victim was not wearing a helmet or any protective equipment at the time of the incident. Although companions managed to free the boy before emergency services were called, his death was later confirmed at the Maniwaki hospital.

A coroner's office is investigating the precise circumstances of the loss of control, though preliminary findings suggest the incident was accidental with no criminal elements involved.
