Quebec tourism industry reacts to lack of dedicated minister
Tourism industry representatives in Quebec are expressing concern following the government's decision not to appoint a minister specifically dedicated to tourism in its new cabinet. Under the current administration, tourism responsibilities have been integrated into the Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation, and Energy (MEIE).
Tourisme Gaspésie has called for a clear government commitment to ensure the industry maintains a strong voice within the government, noting that while the integration with economic development offers opportunities, regional realities must be protected. Similarly, the Quebec Liberal Party has criticized the absence of a dedicated minister, emphasizing that the sector's $18.9 billion in revenue in 2025 warrants strong political representation to address challenges such as labor shortages, transportation, and regional development.
