Quebec voters head to polls for provincial election
Voters in Quebec are heading to the polls today, October 5, to elect a provincial government following a 39-day campaign. The election follows eight years of rule by the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ).
In the Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré riding, seven candidates are competing for seats, representing parties including the Coalition Avenir Québec, Liberal Party of Quebec, Parti Québécois, Québec solidaire, and the Conservative Party of Quebec. Key campaign issues have included housing, the economy, healthcare, transportation, and regional development.
In the René-Lévesque riding, approximately 31,994 voters are eligible to cast their ballots. Polling stations are open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Preliminary election results are expected to be released after the polls close at 8:00 p.m.
Political analysts have noted various shifts in the landscape, with some polls suggesting the possibility of a minority government. Discussions surrounding the election have also touched upon economic concerns and the future of sovereignty and public services.
