Quebec women's groups mobilize against femicide and violence

Activists in Quebec's Côte-Nord region are intensifying mobilizations to demand better protection and political commitments regarding femicide and violence against women. In Sept-Îles, members of the ‘Non aux féminicides — Côte-Nord’ committee and women's groups met with former deputy and current candidate Kateri Champagne Jourdain to present their demands following several protests.

Simultaneously, the group Femmes Autochtones du Québec (FAQ) joined a solidarity march in Pessamit following a serious assault on three Innu women in mid-August. FAQ is calling for concrete safety measures for Indigenous women and girls across the province, urging the Quebec government to work in partnership with First Nations to address the urgency of the situation and ensure the security of women and children is treated as a shared responsibility.
