Quechua organization receives first indigenous cultural certification in Antofagasta
The Quechua Social and Cultural Indigenous Association 'Tesoros Vivos de Kosca', based in the commune of Ollagüe, has become the first Community Culture Point belonging to an indigenous people in the Antofagasta Region of Chile.
The certification recognizes the organization's long-term efforts to preserve Quechua memory, traditions, and ancestral knowledge, specifically through transmission to younger generations. The recognition was presented by Paula Rodríguez, the regional minister (Seremi) of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, during a territorial visit to the high-altitude commune located at over 3,400 meters.
As part of this milestone, the organization will join 'Voces del Altiplano', an initiative connecting cultural groups from Ollagüe and Calama. This project aims to foster intergenerational exchange by linking contemporary artistic expressions, such as rap and performing arts, with ancestral Quechua language and traditions.
