Ionuț Lupescu mourns death of his mother Ana Lupescu

Former Romanian international footballer Ionuț Lupescu announced on Facebook that his mother, Ana Lupescu, died on the morning of 2 August 2026. He wrote, “Adio, mama! Dumnezeu să te odihnească în pace.” Lupescu, 57, is a former Rapid București defender who earned 74 caps for Romania and played in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups. The day before his mother’s death he attended CS Dinamo’s opening match of the Liga 2 season, where the club lost 1‑2 to CS Afumaţi, and he praised the young players and discussed progress on the new Dinamo stadium. Ana Lupescu, 82, had lived between Romania and Germany and was the mother of the former international. The loss was reported by several Romanian outlets, all citing Lupescu’s social‑media post.
