Queen Camilla addresses online abuse at domestic violence summit
Queen Camilla spoke at the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Summit at Marlborough College in Wiltshire, emphasizing the importance of breaking the silence surrounding domestic abuse. She noted that while domestic abuse was once a taboo subject, increased public discussion is essential to eventually ending the cycle of violence.
During the event, the Queen highlighted the evolving nature of abuse in the digital age, describing it as “abuse in our pocket.” She warned that technology has introduced new challenges as the boundaries between physical and digital abuse increasingly overlap, noting that women often struggle to identify new forms of online mistreatment.
The Queen met with documentary maker and influencer Zara McDermott, who has become an advocate for survivors after experiencing the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. Camilla praised McDermott and other survivors, describing them as “real heroes” in the effort to combat violence against women and girls.
