Queen Camilla supports literacy in Liverpool

Queen Camilla visited Liverpool to participate in a reading event celebrating the National Year of Reading 2026. During the visit to Speke Hall, the Queen joined children and families for an interactive storytelling session led by “The Gruffalo” author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler.

The event was part of the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Early Words Matter’ program, which aims to support language, reading, and communication skills in young children. The Queen also visited a community library that had been rebuilt following a fire during the civil unrest in July 2024, marking a symbolic recovery for the local area.

During the session, the Queen engaged with the children, read aloud, and met with the creators of the popular children’s book. Each child in attendance received a copy of “The Gruffalo” or “The Gruffalo’s Child.”
