Queen Camilla visits rebuilt Liverpool library

Queen Camilla visited the Spellow Community Hub and Library in Liverpool to celebrate its reopening after the facility was destroyed by fire during summer 2024 riots. The unrest followed a fatal attack in Southport.

During the visit, the Queen unveiled a commemorative plaque and donated a box of books to the library, stating, “You can never have too many books.” She described the reconstruction of the library as a “happy ending” to “such a terrible story.”

The library was rebuilt following a fundraising campaign that raised over £250,000, supported by community efforts and celebrity donations. During the event, children’s author Frank Cottrell-Boyce read a poem, and library staff member Sean McEvoy read a book to local schoolchildren alongside the Queen.
