Queen Letizia retains original identity document number
Queen Letizia of Spain chose to retain her original national identity document (DNI) number rather than adopting the specific numbering reserved for members of the Royal Family. Following her marriage to King Felipe VI in 2004, she was offered the opportunity to change her identification number to align with royal tradition, but she declined, opting to keep the number she had held since childhood.
Historically, the Spanish DNI system includes a specific range of numbers reserved for the Royal Family. While numbers 1 through 3 were originally assigned to Francisco Franco and his family, the numbers between 10 and 99 are designated for the monarchy. For example, King Juan Carlos held number 10, Queen Sofía held number 11, and King Felipe VI was assigned number 15. This tradition of specific numbering also extends to the princesses, Leonor and Sofía, who received reserved numbers at birth.
