Queen Liliʻuokalani honored through new Maui garden and Hilo festival

New cultural initiatives and celebrations are honoring the legacy of Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last sovereign monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

In Maui, the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has unveiled ‘The Queen’s Garden: Uluhaimalama.’ Located in the resort’s interior courtyard, this new experience features six educational stations designed by Hawaiian cultural practitioners. The garden aims to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the Queen’s life, her connection to the land, and her enduring cultural legacy through traditional storytelling and heritage.

In Hilo, the He Hali‘a Aloha No Lili‘uokalani Festival will take place at Lili‘uokalani Gardens to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. The community event includes music, hula, arts, crafts, and food. A highlight of the festival features hundreds of dancers performing a mass hula as floral blossoms are dropped from a helicopter.
