Queen Margrethe II of Denmark hospitalized in Copenhagen

Former Danish Queen Margrethe II has been hospitalized at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen following an unexpected illness. The 86-year-old monarch was admitted after medical staff identified a new hematoma in her hip region and mild dehydration.

The Danish Royal House reported that the former queen is in good spirits and is receiving treatment and observation. This hospitalization will prevent her from traveling to Oslo this Wednesday to attend the state funeral of King Harald V of Norway, who passed away recently.

Due to her absence, the Danish representation at the funeral will be led by King Frederik X, Queen Mary, Princess Benedikte, and Crown Prince Christian. This marks the third time Margrethe has required hospital treatment in 2026, following previous admissions in May for coronary issues and related complications.
