Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been hospitalized at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen following a period of ill health. The 86-year-old former monarch was admitted after doctors identified a new blood clot in her hip region and mild dehydration.

Due to her hospitalization, the Queen was unable to attend the state funeral of King Harald of Norway in Oslo. While she was expected to participate alongside Crown Prince Christian and Princess Benedikte, the Danish Royal Palace confirmed she would remain hospitalized for at least a week for observation and treatment. The Palace stated that she is currently in “good spirits.”

This marks the third hospitalization for the former Queen in 2026. Earlier in the year, she was treated for heart concerns and a previous hip-related blood clot. King Frederik, Queen Mary, and Crown Prince Christian attended the funeral in Norway in her absence.
