Queen Marie's Royal Villa in Mamaia to undergo restoration

The Constanța Local Council has approved a collaboration protocol to restore and repurpose Queen Marie's Royal Villa in Mamaia for cultural and touristic use. The agreement involves the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Constanța, and Patrimoniu Constanța Litoral SRL.

Built between 1923 and 1926 based on designs by Italian architect Mario Stoppa, the villa is a Category A historical monument. The project is part of the city's 2021-2031 cultural strategy, which aims to create a ‘Royal Route’ connecting the Queen's Nest, the Royal Palace, and the Royal Villa.

Restoration efforts are funded through the ‘Cultural Foundations’ project (LD 2215), supported by a loan agreement between Romania and the Council of Europe Development Bank. This broader program, valued at approximately 280 million euros, includes 14 strategic investments for national cultural heritage. Preparations for interventions are scheduled to enter a concrete stage in 2026.
