Queen Mary hosts Vietnamese President Tô Lam at state banquet

King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted Vietnamese President Tô Lam and First Lady Ngô Phuong Ly for a state visit beginning October 19, 2026. The visit included a formal welcome at Christian VII Palace, cultural tours, and diplomatic engagements.

During the state banquet at Christiansborg Palace, Queen Mary wore the sapphire tiara of Queen Alexandrine for the first time. The piece, originally a wedding gift from Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia in 1898, was recently reacquired by the Danish Royal Collections.

To modernize the historical piece, Queen Mary collaborated with designers Diana Holstein and Hanan Emquies to create a new, fully reversible design. The tiara had previously been held by private owners after being sold at auction in 2018.
