Queen Mary of Denmark wears 158-year-old royal heirloom

Queen Mary of Denmark wore a 158-year-old historical bracelet during a ceremony at Frederiksborg Castle to mark the presentation of King Frederik X’s first official portrait.

The jewelry piece, dating back to 1869, consists of eight square sections, each featuring a large central pearl surrounded by 16 brilliant-cut diamonds. It was originally an engagement gift from the future King Frederik VIII to Princess Lovisa of Sweden in 1868.

The bracelet is part of the Danish Royal Property Trust, a foundation established in 1910 by Queen Lovisa to ensure that significant historical jewels remain available to reigning queens consort. Under the trust's regulations, these pieces are owned by the Danish Royal House and cannot be sold or dismantled.
