Mette-Marit becomes Queen of Norway

Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby has ascended to the position of Queen of Norway following the death of King Harald. Her journey to the monarchy began in 1999 when she met then-Crown Prince Haakon at the Quart Festival in her hometown of Kristiansand.

Initially viewed as a modernizing figure for the monarchy, her path has been marked by significant personal and public challenges. Before her marriage, she was a single mother and was active in the Norwegian house music scene, a past she has acknowledged involved living outside conventional social norms.

In recent years, her public image has faced scrutiny due to various personal matters, including health issues and associations that have complicated her role within the royal family. Despite these controversies, she and Haakon have raised two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.
