Queen Máxima supports men's mental health initiative at soccer stadium

Queen Máxima visited the Rat Verlegh Stadium in Breda to participate in a discussion regarding the mental health of men in professional soccer. The event centered on the documentary ‘Echte Mannen Huilen Niet’ (Real Men Don't Cry), which features current and former players discussing experiences with grief, loneliness, performance pressure, and panic attacks.

During the event, Hanna Verboom of the Cinetree Foundation noted that nearly half of the Netherlands deals with psychological suffering. The Queen, who has served as honorary chair of the MIND Us foundation since 2022, joined players and organizers in discussing the importance of breaking the taboo surrounding male vulnerability. Former professional footballer Gianni Zuiverloon emphasized that physical fitness must be treated with the same importance as mental fitness.

Following the documentary screening and panel, the Queen met with players in the locker rooms to continue the conversation. The initiative aims to use the high-pressure environment of professional sports to encourage more open dialogue about emotional well-being.
