Queen Sofía inaugurates neurodegenerative disease congress in Seville
Queen Sofía of Spain presided over the inauguration of the 13th International Congress of Neurodegenerative Diseases in Seville. The event, held at the Virgen de los Reyes Center, coincides with World Alzheimer's Day and is organized by the Queen Sofía Foundation and the Center for Research in Neurological Diseases (CIEN), in collaboration with the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS).
The congress focuses on scientific advancements in biomarkers, which allow for the non-invasive detection of Alzheimer's years before symptoms appear. Other key themes include artificial intelligence, genetics, brain plasticity, and inflammation. During the event, the ‘Extraordinary Brains’ awareness campaign was launched to promote the importance of brain tissue donation for research.
In addition to the scientific sessions, the Queen attended a flamenco concert at the Real Alcázar of Seville, an initiative designed to use flamenco as an active therapy for patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
