Queen Sofía of Spain visits Armenia for human development awards

Queen Sofía of Spain is conducting a visit to Armenia from October 27 to 29, 2026, to participate in the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development ceremony. The event, organized by the Arabian Gulf Fund for Development (AGFUND), recognizes four projects focused on affordable and clean energy, including water supply, food security, and solar-powered irrigation.

During her stay, the Queen met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to discuss strengthening bilateral political dialogue and relations between Spain and Armenia. Following this, she toured the Geghard monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, accompanied by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.

The visit follows an earlier trip to Armenia by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez this year, signaling growing diplomatic momentum between the two nations.
