Queen's 1986 Budapest Concert Restored in 4K for Global Release

Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team has restored Queen’s 1986 concert in Budapest in 4K, adding remixed audio from the original multitrack recordings. The 40th‑anniversary film, titled “Queen Budapest,” will be screened worldwide in cinemas and IMAX starting 7 October, followed by DVD, Blu‑ray and digital releases.

The historic show took place on 27 July 1986 at Budapest’s Népstadion, drawing a sold‑out crowd of 80,000 and marking the first Western stadium rock performance behind the Iron Curtain. An edited version was later broadcast across the Communist bloc, and the concert was rebroadcast in Hungarian theatres on New Year’s Day 1987. Guitarist Brian May and frontman Freddie Mercury are featured in the restored footage, which also includes an acoustic rendition of the Hungarian folk song “Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt.”
